Flexibility And Mobility Workout

Mobility Recovery Workout: Getting Past Post-Lifting Soreness

For many people, flexibility is a part of fitness that goes unnoticed. Unless you already have a dedicated stretching or yoga routine, it's likely that you're not sure how flexible you are. Going through a flexibility and mobility workout on a regular basis is an important part of keeping your body healthy. If you're already settled into a solid fitness routine, a mobility recovery workout can give your muscles the stretches they need to get you back in the gym at 100%, faster than if you simply allowed your muscles to recover on their own.

When you go through a strength or intense cardio workout, your muscles may accumulate lactic acid. Lactic acid accumulates in the muscles when there is not enough oxygen for the muscles to do their job. Accumulation of lactic acid is completely normal during a hard workout. After a workout, accumulation of lactic acid can cause intense muscle soreness. A mobility recovery workout can provide you with stretches and mobility work that can open up the muscle tissue, allowing oxygen to penetrate the areas where lactic acid has accumulated. This can provide you with relief from the soreness you feel after a tough workout.

A flexibility and mobility workout can go a long way in preventing injury. As you work out, your muscles, tendons, and joints may move in unexpected ways. When your body is flexible, you're able to accommodate these movements without injury. Regularly working on your flexibility is a key component of staying injury free.
